Escape Velocity & EV: Override

If you've never heard of either Escape Velocity or EV:Override then head on over to the Official Escape Velocity web site as well the Official EV:Override web site. There you can get a good background on both games. The sites will also have everything you will need to play the game, download additional plug-ins, and create your own plug-ins.

Basically, Escape Velocity, and it's sequel, are set in space. You're given a shuttlecraft and some cash (credits) and the galaxy is yours to explore from there. Throughout the game you'll have the opportunity to join one of the many competing factions in the game, and choose what type of individual you want to be like a trade merchant, a pirate, a bounty hunter, a soldier, or a mercenary just to name a few. So download the game and try it out. Don't forget to register if you decide to keep it.

Also, if you'd like a very basic idea of what the game is like, you can check out my Adventures of Remo section.

I haven't been too busy with Escape Velocity for the last couple of months, ever since I finished the Pale plug-in. Right now I'm just waiting for the new, final version of Escape Velocity Game Expander to come out.

nh But, I was checking out the EV message boards and saw that another major plug has been released. It's called New Horizons. It's a pretty big download at 13MB, but hey, I'm still on a 28.8 connection and I was able to get it no problems. They've also got a cool QuickTime preview movie that I downloaded and watched. It looks like the creators put a lot of effort into this project. And now I've got something new to play with until EVGE Final is released.

So, go on over to the New Horizons download site for an intro and link to the download page. Then, while you wait for the download to complete, head on over to the New Horizons info site to read about the whole project.

Adventures of Remo.

This is a project I started several weeks ago. There are a couple of pretty good Escape Velocity fan fiction stories out there. However, Adventures of Remo is not really a story. It's more like a journal of sorts. I started the Escape Velocity Game Expander plug with a new pilot file, Remo, flying his shuttlecraft called Bex Comet. Adventures of Remo is just a journal account of what happens to Remo as I go through the game.

At first, I wrote down everything, as you can see at the beginning of the journal. However, I quickly discovered this took forever to do and still play the game. I wasn't getting any enjoyment out of playing. So, after the first installment, I decided not to write every little thing down. Now, I'm only recording out of the ordinary events that take place, missions I attempt to do, and places I visit. This way I can enjoy the game and still get some of it down on paper for the Adventures of Remo. Hopefully, for those that have never played EV, they can get a better idea of what's going on and how the game is played. And for those veterans of the game that may read it, maybe it will provide some enjoyable reading.

Unfortunately, my Adventures of Remo was accidentally cut short. I was just flying around the universe (and talking on the phone at the same time) when I jumped right in to a fleet of Alien ships. Before I even noticed, Bex Comet was starting to explode. By the time I saw what was going on and was able to hit the eject button, Bex Comet was already destroyed.

So two things to learn from this. The first and most obvious, just pause the game when you're talking on the phone. The second though is this. With the EVGE plug, your not as safe exploring the universe as you were with the original Escape Velocity. There are many more hostile ships and fleets out there and they can appear in almost any system, especially the hostile Alien fleets. So, try to get out of the habit of just jumping in and immediately jumping out. Jump in to a system, make sure there are no hostile ships or that you're at a safe enough distance from the closest one to make the hyperspace jump, and then jump out. Anyway, if your interested, go check out the Adventures of Remo.
