Tour Information
The
Smith Additions primary function is as a study and research space.
Those studying and doing research need quiet. Therefore, the Library discourages group tours except those
which facilitate use of the Library as a place to do research.
The
Law Library does have two self-guided tours on CD that patrons can take to
familiarize themselves with the Law Library and with basic legal research:
The
Law Library Orientation Tour leads Library patrons around the underground
addition to the Law Library pointing out important collections and areas.
This tour also explains how to find materials in Lexcalibur, the
University of Michigan Law Library online catalog.
The
Legal Research Basics Tour leads Library patrons through a sample legal research problem. Within
this framework, the Tour explains how to use basic legal resources including
legal encyclopedias, digests, statute compilations, and A.L.Rs.
There are also additional sections on using Shepard's Citations and basic
treaty research.
Both
tours can be picked up at the Circulation desk on Sub-2 and both tours have
handouts to ease navigation and elucidate basic concepts.
