Camera movement / Edge

Record an edge with your audio/video camera. You are to interpret and define the scale and place of this edge. Explore the position of the camera in relationship to your body considering the movement your body could provide. Record continuously (no cuts) and without using the viewfinder. The length of the recording is up to you but should be considered carefully.---Martha Skinner

Intervals on the freeways in the form of fly-overs were used as intervals between shots for the process of editing the edge. The intention was to record the transition of sights and sounds from the freeways to the city of Detroit as an attempt to notate the 'edge' at the scale of the city.

The camera was located in a moving car. The car represented an extension of my body since my body inhabited it and the car functioned as the vehicle for movement.

The camera was strapped to a handle near the window and the edge of the city was captured without using the viewfinder.

Trail effect was added to accentuate the effect of movement of the car on the camera and to start blurring edges between earth and sky, road and building, man and car.
