| *The Chain of Trust / Level of Evidence tool is an evaluation tool that is designed to be subjective and can be used with either print or web-based information sources. The two web site evaluation tools above (Evaluation Tool for Clinician-Oriented Web Sites and Evaluation Tool for Patient-Oriented Web Sites) attempt to offer a method for using impartial measurable indicators of quality. If you are interested in these tools, you may wish to also review the versions published in our book. These focus on quality indicators for content and usability. For design quality, we recommend referring to the W3C web-accessibility standards (international), Section 508 (USA), or SENDA (UK). To test a web site's adherence to these standards, you may with to use the following free online tools: Bobby (W3C / Section 508), or LIFT (SENDA). For a different conceptual approach to web site content evaluation, we find it valuable to consider that given by Dr. Ahmad Risk (Great Home Page) as one which is more intuitively accessible, useful for individual use. |
