2012 Season Recaps
Congratulations to the following 3 Michigan players who have received All-American Awards for their excellent play throughout the 2012 season: Kelsey Martin, Senior, Defense, 2nd Team Michigan was awarded 6 All-Conference selections in this year's All-WCLL league awards; Seniors Melissa Oddo, Ani Shekerjian and Alaina Mezwa garnered second team All-Conference awards, while Seniors Emmy Scheidt, Kelsey Martin, and Sophomore Julianne Patterson were First Team selections. Nana Kikuchi was honored as an Academic All-American also. At the team Banquet on Saturday night at Nationals, there were a number of additional team awards handed out as well. They are: Most Outstanding Defenders: Melissa Oddo and Kelsey Martin Most Outstanding Midfielder: Julianne Patterson Most Outstanding Attacker: Ani Shekerjian Rookie-of-the Year: Shelby Wagner Most Improved: Nana Kikuchi Coaches' Award: Claire Gadra Team MVP: Emmy Scheidt In addition to the awards above, the following 3 Wolverines were also named to the 2012 Division 1 All-Tournament Team for their exceptional play at the National Tournament May 9-12th in Colorado Springs: Sophomore Julianne Patterson, and Seniors Emmy Scheidt and Ani Shekerjian.
Michigan finishes the 2012 season as 4th in the Nation: Michigan lost their last game at the National tournament in Colorado Springs, to #4 seeded University of Florida. The Wolverines were up by 2 with 26 minutes to play when they received their 4th yellow card of the game, and were forced to play down for the remainder of the game. Even though the Wolverines did score a few goals, Florida easily answered and put in a few additional to take a solid lead at the end of the game. The last 5 goals came on an empty net as Michigan pulled their goalie to help play even-man-on-man on the field. It was the strangest game of officiating where there were 7 yellow cards handed out in a game that had absolutely no animosity between teams, and no dangerous play or unsportsmanlike behavior from either team. The Wolverines finished their season 14-6, and had the highest finish of the last 6 years, with their 4th place finish at Nationals this year. Also, Michigan played a more competitive game against National Champion, UC Davis, in the semi-final game (losing 10-11 in Overtime) than #1 seed Colorado State did in the Championship. UC Davis handled Colorado State 7-5, earning their first-ever National Championship. Colorado State has now finished #1 or #2 in each of the last 5 years, and won 3 of those 5 National Championships. Michigan beat Colorado State 12-5 in Santa Barbara on February 19th.`
Michigan Falls in the Semi-Finals to eventual Champion UC Davis: Michigan suffered a heartbreaking loss in overtime this afternoon to an Aggie team on the roll (10-11, OT). UC Davis entered the tournament as the #10 seed and upset #7, #2 and now #3 Michigan on the way to the Championship game. Michigan faces #4 Florida tomorrow in the consolation game for 3rd place. Game time is set for 12:30pm (MST). Tune into twitter for live game updates. UC Davis plays #1 seed Colorado State in the Championship at 10:30am.
Wolverines advance to the "Final 4", beating UCF 13-9: The #3 seeded Michigan Wolverines extended their winning streak to 7, by winning their quarter-final game against #6-seeded UCF today. The game started out close, and Michigan found themselves down 2-3 early in the first half. After that, Michigan took control of the game, going on a 5-goal scoring run to close out the half, up 7-3. The Knights kept battling back, coming to within 2 several times, but Michigan dug deep and produced goal after goal to keep UCF out of contention. There were 9 different Wolverines who scored in the game, while 4 players tallied 2 each. Tomorrow, they move on to the Semi-Finals, facing UC-Davis, who was the last team to beat Michigan (March 31, in Boulder). UC Davis entered the tournament as the #10 seed, topping #7 Texas in the first round, and then upsetting #2 UC Santa Barbara today in an overtime win in the Quarter-Finals (10-9). The Semi-Final games are: #1 CSU vs. #4 Florida (1pm, MST)

Michigan starts their National Tournament run on the right foot, beating UVA 17-7: The #3 seeded Michigan Wolverines have started their weekend in Colorado Springs with a decisive victory over #14 seed Virginia in the first round of the WCLA National Tournament. This puts them in the quarter-final game against the #6 seed, UCF, who beat #11 BYU in their opening game. Game time is 10am (MST). The quarter final games are: #1 CSU vs. #9 UCLA
#2 UCSB vs. #10 UC Davis
#3 Michigan vs. #6 UCF
#4 Florida vs. #12 Santa Clara
Michigan heads West to Nationals (5/9-12): Michigan has been seeded 3rd for this year's National Tournament in Colorado Springs, CO, and will face (#14) UVA in the opening round on Wednesday morning, May 9th, at 9:30am (MST). Rounding out the top 5 seeds at the tournament are: #1 Colorado State, #2 UC-Santa Barbara, #4 Florida, and #5 Colorado. The Wolverines are anxious to play in this year's tournament, excited about their seed and their chances of winning the tournament this year! Follow the games on twitter, or better yet, come to Colorado Springs to cheer the team on! Michigan heads to Conference Tournament in Columbus (4/21-22): Michigan traveled to Ohio State who played host to the WCLL conference tournament last weekend. The Wolverines were seeded second in the tournament, and opened on Saturday afternoon against the #7 seed, West Virginia. Michigan kept control throughout the game, and came away with their first win of the weekend (16-3), advancing to face rival and host, Ohio State, in the semi-finals on Sunday morning. Though it was a well attended game for the Buckeyes, Michigan came away with the win (12-5), and were anxiously looking forward to playing in the Championship game against #1 seed, Pittsburgh. The Wolverines were highly motivated to avenge their mid-season loss to Pittsburgh (March 17th), and came away with the win (8-6). The victory secured their place as winners of the WCLL conference, earning the Wolverines an automatic bid to Nationals in Colorado Springs this year. Michigan finishes up regular season at Michigan State (4/15): Michigan traveled to East Lansing on Sunday, April 15th, and finished their regular season schedule with a commanding win over their Spartan Rivals, by a score of 18-1. Michigan State scored first, and then the Wolverines followed up with 18 straight, unanswered goals. All of the Wolverines saw action in their victory and the 6 seniors finished their college career as 4-year victors over Michigan State (in Lacrosse, at least)! Michigan has solid performance in Mile High Invitational in Boulder (3/30-4/1): Michigan returned to action on Friday afternoon in Boulder, facing host Colorado for the opening game of the Mile High Invitational. Michigan fought hard, but fell in overtime by a score of 13-14. They bounced back with a commanding victory over Arizona on Saturday morning (18-5), but fell victim to powerhouse UC, Davis on Saturday night (8-10). Michigan finished the weekend with a solid win over Santa Clara on Sunday morning (12-10), which brought the weekend record to 2-2. Wolverines look forward to home game for Parents' Weekend on 3/24: Michigan returned to action on Saturday, 3/24, as they hosted visiting team Central Michigan. It was the official "Parents Weekend" for the Wolverines, and was also the last home game of the season, making it also the "Senior Game" for the 6 graduating seniors: Kelsey Martin, Emmy Scheidt, Ani Shekerjian, Alaina Mezwa, Melissa Oddo and Maddie Palmer. All of the seniors scored in the outing, except goalie Emmy Scheidt, who was more than happy to stay in the crease. The Wolverines dominated the game and finished their regular season undefeated at home, with a score of 20-5 against CMU. Wolverines handle Western Michigan in home action on Sunday 3/18: Michigan bounced back nicely after their loss to Pitt on Saturday with a commanding victory over Western Michigan on Sunday. Michigan scored first and never looked back, as the final score was 19-5. Wolverines suffer loss to conference rival Pittsburgh: Michigan had a heart-breaking loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon at Pitt. The Panthers started strong and kept playing hard the whole game. The Wolverines found themselves down by as many as 5 goals in the first half (2-7), but managed a last minute goal before the halftime break (3-7). The second half was much stronger for Michigan as they rallied back hard and came within 1 goal twice (6-7) and again (8-9), but Pitt would not be caught and Michigan was never able to tie the game. Pitt's final goal came in the last 15 seconds as the Michigan goalie came out of the crease in an effort to break Pitt's stall. The Wolverines return to action on Sunday (3/18) against another conference opponent, Western Michigan, at 1:15pm. Wolverines travel to Pittsburgh March 17th: After being idle for 4 weeks, the Wolverines are back in action against WCLL-Conference rival Pitt on Saturday at 4:30pm, at The Cost Sports Center at the University of Pittsburgh. Michigan has never traveled to play at Pitt in their 9-year history, and none of the current Michigan players or coaches have ever lost to Pitt either. Michigan has been the #1 ranked team in the WCLA for the past 2 weeks, making the (#12-ranked) Pitt team more motivated than ever to take down their rivals. Santa Barbara Shootout, Feb 16-19: The Wolverines wrapped up their 4-game weekend in Santa Barbara with a dominating performance over last year's National Champions, Colorado State. Michigan went up 7-2 at the half, and though the game was closer in the second half, the Wolverines held on to their lead and finished on top, 12-5. It was a great turn of events as Colorado State has won every game against Michigan in the last 6 years since the two teams have faced each other. Michigan had a tough second day at the shootout, playing their second and third games in 24 hours on Saturday. They won a tough battle against BYU to start the day, scoring the winning goal in the second half of overtime to finish on top, 11-10. After a couple of hours off, the Wolverines returned to action and fell just short of a win against a much-improved Georgia team -- losing 10-12. Michigan plays their final game on Sunday morning at 9am (PST) against returning national champions, Colorado State. Michigan won their first game of the shootout, topping host UC Santa Barbara by a decisive score of 11-8. Santa Barbara scored first, but after that, the Wolverines turned it on and led for the rest of the game. After going up to a 6-2 lead in the first 16 minutes of the 1st half, UCSB went on a scoring run of their own, and Michigan narrowly held on to their first half lead, which ended at 7-5. However, Michigan played a solid second half, outscoring the Gauchos by 1, and finishing the game up by 3, with a score of 11-8. Michigan has lost 8 straight at the Santa Barbara Shootout over the last 2 years, so the Wolverines are thrilled to begin what they hope will be a 8-0 run over the next 2 years! The next game for the Wolverines is Saturday morning at 9am (PST) vs. BYU who started their shootout 1-1, losing to Florida (7-4) and beating Pitt (9-5). CLICK ON THE TITLES ABOVE TO READ FULL STORY

Spring practice has begun for the 2012 season: The Wolverines picked up where they left off after fall ball, and have begun practice for the spring season. The team looks great and they're all excited for the upcoming clinic on Feb. 5th, with their home opener (scrimmage) against Adrian College, following at 1:30pm (on Feb. 5th).
