Coming to the Stage...The U of M Latin Jazz Ensemble
Recently, the University of Michigan opened new doors with the creation of the Latin Jazz Ensemble. The founder and director of the Latin Jazz Ensemble is the talented professor and musician Roland Vazquez. Mr. Vaquez formed the ensemble to recognize the influence of the Afro-Cuban diaspora on music. There are only nine students in the ensemble so students are encouraged to become a member. Interested students must be able to read and play music but they do not have to be enrolled in the School of Music. As a new and often overlooked group, the Latin Jazz Ensemble is constantly seeking more members, more funding, and more performance events. The ensemble hosts concerts at least once every semester. Some of their past shows include performances at Club Firefly, Rackham auditorium, and on North Campus 17.
