We are proud to present "Artemisia 1998: A Conference on Women's Issues 1998." With the co-sponsorship of numerous groups on and off campus (over 20 on campus and over 15 off campus), we are holding a three-day symposium to increase awareness of relevant women's issues. By providign professional insight and a forum for the exchange of ideas and contacts, we hope to assist in guiding women into the 21st century

We chose the name "Artemisia" because it means the feminine life principle (similar to the Yin of Yin/Yang), commonly known in its Greek representation as Artemis, the goddess of the hunt and guardian of women.

The conference will be held in the Michigan League, which was originally built as a student union for University of Michigan women. Artemisia will be held from Friday, March 13 to Sunday, March 15, 1998 in conjunction with "Women's History Month" and the 150th anniversary of the Women's Rights Movement (launched at the world's first Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York).

The conference will include participants from the University of Michigan community as well as from neighboring universities and institutes of higher learning. We are expecting approximately 300 participants in all.

The first day of the conference will consist of on-site registration, a keynote address and banquet dinner, and self-enrichment workshops. The second day will include several issues panels, a speakers' panel, and entertainment for the evening. The final day will conclude the conference with breakout sessions and closing remarks.
