Daily newspapers (per 1,000 people)
Daily newspapers are the number of newspapers published at least four times a week, per 1,000 people. For more information, see Tables: WDI 5.11.
Death rate, crude (per 1,000 people)
Crude death rate indicates the number of deaths occurring during the year, per 1,000 midyear population. For more information, see Tables: WDI 2.2.
DEC alternative conversion factor (LCU per US$)
The DEC alternative conversion factor is the underlying annual exchange rate used for the World Bank Atlas method. As a rule, it is the official exchange rate reported in the IMF's International Financial Statistics (line rf). Exceptions arise where furth
er refinements are made by World Bank staff. It is expressed in local currency units per U.S. dollar.
Deposit interest rate (%)
Deposit interest rate is the rate paid by commercial or similar banks for demand, time, or savings deposits. For more information, see Tables: WDI 5.6.
Domestic absorption (% of GDP)
Domestic absorption is the sum of private consumption, general government consumption and gross domestic investment. For more information, see Tables: WDI 4.8 and 4.9.

Domestic absorption is the sum of private consumption, general government consumption and gross domestic investment. Data are in current U.S. dollars. For more information, see Tables: WDI 4.8 and 4.9.
Domestic credit provided by banking sector (% of GDP)
Domestic credit provided by the banking sector includes all credit to various sectors on a gross basis, with the exception of credit to the central government, which is net. The banking sector includes monetary authorities and deposit money banks, as well
as other banking institutions where data are available (including institutions that do not accept transferable deposits but do incur such liabilities as time and savings deposits). Examples of other banking institutions are savings and mortgage loan inst
itutions and building and loan associations. For more information, see Tables: WDI 5.4.
Domestic financing, total (% of GDP)
Domestic financing (obtained from residents) refers to the means by which a government provides financial resources to cover a budget deficit or allocates financial resources arising from a budget surplus. It includes all government liabilities--other tha
n those for currency issues or demand, time, or savings deposits with government--or claims on others held by government and changes in government holdings of cash and deposits. Government guarantees of the debt of others are excluded. Data are shown for
central government only. For more information, see Tables: WDI 4.12.
