Factor payments (BoP, current US$)
Factor payments refer to employee compensation paid to nonresident workers and investment income (payments on direct investment, portfolio investment, other investments). Income derived from the use of intangible assets is excluded from income and recorde

Factor receipts refer to employee compensation paid to resident workers working abroad and investment income (receipts on direct investment, portfolio investment, other investments, and receipts on reserve assets). Income derived from the use of intangibl

Fax machines (per 1,000 people)
Fax machines are the estimated number of facsimile machines connected to the public switched telephone network, per 1,000 people. For more information, see Tables: WDI 5.11.
Fertility rate, total (births per woman)
Total fertility rate represents the number of children that would be born to a woman if she were to live to the end of her childbearing years and bear children in accordance with prevailing age-specific fertility rates. For more information, see Tables: W

Fertilizer consumption (100 grams per hectare of arable land)
Fertilizer consumption (100 grams per hectare of arable land) measures the quantity of plant nutrients used per unit of arable land. Fertilizer products cover nitrogenous, potash, and phosphate fertilizers (including ground rock phosphate). The crop year
(July through June) is the time reference for fertilizer consumption. Arable land includes land defined by the FAO as land under temporary crops (double-cropped areas are counted once), temporary meadows for mowing or for pasture, land under market or kit
chen gardens, and land temporarily fallow. Land abandoned as a result of shifting cultivation is not included. For more information, see Tables: WDI 3.2.
Fertilizer consumption (metric tons)
Fertilizer consumption measures the quantity of plant nutrients used per unit of arable land. Fertilizer products cover nitrogenous, potash, and phosphate fertilizers (including ground rock phosphate). The crop year (July through June) is the time referen

Financing from abroad (% of GDP)
Financing from abroad (obtained from nonresidents) refers to the means by which a government provides financial resources to cover a budget deficit or allocates financial resources arising from a budget surplus. It includes all government liabilities--oth
er than those for currency issues or demand, time, or savings deposits with government--or claims on others held by government and changes in government holdings of cash and deposits. Government guarantees of the debt of others are excluded. Data are show
n for central government only. For more information, see Tables: WDI 4.12.

Food price index is a subindex of the consumer price index. For more information, see Tables: WDI 4.15.
Food production index (1989-91 = 100)
Food production index covers commodities that are considered edible and that contain nutrients. Coffee and tea are excluded because, although edible, they have no nutritive value. For more information, see Tables: WDI 3.3.
Food, beverages and tobacco (% of value added in mfg)
Value added in manufacturing is the sum of gross output less the value of intermediate inputs used in production for industries classified in ISIC major division 3. Food, beverages, and tobacco comprise ISIC division 31. For more information, see Tables:

Foreign direct investment, net (BoP, current US$)
Foreign direct investment (net) is net inflows in the reporting country less net outflows by the reporting country of investment to acquire a lasting management interest (10 percent or more of voting stock) in an enterprise operating in an economy other t
han that of the investor. It is the sum of equity capital, reinvestment of earnings, other long-term capital, and short-term capital as shown in the balance of payments. Data are in current U.S. dollars. For more information, see Tables: WDI 6.8.
Foreign direct investment, net inflows (% of GDI)
Foreign direct investment is net inflows of investment to acquire a lasting management interest (10 percent or more of voting stock) in an enterprise operating in an economy other than that of the investor. It is the sum of equity capital, reinvestment of
earnings, other long-term capital, and short-term capital as shown in the balance of payments. Gross domestic investment (used in the denominator) is gross domestic fixed investment plus net changes in stocks inventories. For more information, see Tables
: WDI 5.1.
