1.  Where can I find computer workstations in the Library to access the Library catalog?  The Internet?  E-mail?

Computers located throughout the Library can be used to access Lexcalibur, the Librarys catalog, as well as other University of Michigan library catalogs.  Select computers in the Sub-1 core can be used to access resources via the World Wide Web for legal research.  Computers designated for e-mail and Web access are located on the landing at the top of the stairs that lead into the library.  For more information, see our Computer Access Policy.

2.  Can I use Westlaw, Lexis, and Loislaw, and how do I get a password?

Use of Westlaw, Lexis, and Loislaw in the Library is limited to University of Michigan Law School students and faculty.  See "Lexis/Westlaw/Loislaw Information" for more information about this and getting passwords.

3.  Where can Law School students access Westlaw, Lexis, and Loislaw, and where are the laser printers?

Westlaw, Lexis, and Loislaw can be accessed by Law School faculty and students in the CALR on Sub-2 and on select computers in the Sub-1 core area.  The laser printers are located in the Sub-2 copy room.  See "Lexis/Westlaw/Loislaw Information" for more information, or contact the staff at the Reference Desk.

4.  Ive heard the Library has a computer dedicated to Japanese resources.  Where can I find it?

The Japanese computer is located in the Sub-1 core area.

5.  Where may I use my personal laptop in the Library?

Members of the Law School community who have wireless ethernet cards provided by LawIT and whose computer & keyboard have been silenced (routine for those with wireless cards), and anyone else with a silent laptop, may use their personal laptop computers anywhere in the Library.  For those without silent laptops, we ask that you use your computer only in the 16 carrels at the far west end of Sub-2 closest to Legal Research and at the tables in the Closed Reserve area on Sub-2.  Please do not string cords across aisles.

6.  Where can I access word processing programs, and where may I print documents?

Members of the Law School community can use the computers and printers in the Computer Lab located in 200 Hutchins Hall.

7.  Can I access Lexcalibur, the Librarys online system, from home?

Yes, Lexcalibur is available either through telnet or via the Web at http://141.211.44.41/.

8.  Can I access the Law Schools wireless ethernet in the Library?

Yes, if you are a Law School student.  You will need to get an ethernet card from the Law School Information Technology Department.

9Where can I get general computer help?

For computer research questions, the staff at the Reference Desk in the Sub-1 core will be happy to assist you.  For other computer help, if you are a member of the Law School community, please contact the Law Schools Information Technology Department.  Other University of Michigan users can contact the Universitys Information Technology Division.
