MEMORIES IN AUDIO AND VIDEONovember 15, 2003 "Don't Forget to Sing"Posted January 11, 2005
Simon (age 6) is walking around the downstairs, singing along to a discman player. The song he is singing is called, "Don't Forget to Sing", by Laz Slomovits of Gemini (the song appears on Laz's "Bright in All of Us" recording). Miriam (age 4), wanting to do the same, is covetous of Simon's get-up, and she tries to wrest it from him. Simon holds his ground, although those of us who knew him well can see the edge of a guilty conscience as he tortures his little sister. With the help of Markus, Miriam sets herself up with her own headphones, player, and CD. Her choice is "What Kind of Cat are You?" by Billy Jonas (from a recording of the same name). The kids delightedly march about, each singing the song only they can hear. Remembering this incident caught on video, we turned to Laz's song at our graveside service for Simon. Our friend Sarah Williams played the guitar and sang the song, with the rest of us joining in on the chorus:
Don't forget to sing, No matter what is happening, Don't forget to sing.
