MEMORIES IN AUDIO AND VIDEOMay 27, 2004 "Simon's Laugh!"Posted February 3, 2005
This lovely, silly moment occurred on the evening of May 27, 2004. Markus and Simon were teaching Miriam to ride her bike with the training wheels off. Although she does not appear in this snipit of Simon being goofy, I assure you, she was a stellar learner that evening, mastering her two-wheeler in an hour at the age of 4.Simon was mostly avoiding the camera, which I had pulled out to document Miriam's success. However, he decided to tell a joke for me afterall. Listening to the tape, I hear him say, "What is white and black and grey [green?] and white and black?" At the time, I heard him say "green", and he confirms this interpretation. But the joke makes a lot more sense with "grey". You be the judge. Readers of this site may remember the original version of this joke. It was told on Simon's MESSAGE BOARD many moons ago by the Hopkins family in New York state. Ten points for anyone who can go back and find the reference in the archive. Remember all those jokes people used to send to Simon? As for this clip, I love to see how much fun he is having as he teases me in my meager attempt to grab him on film. This clip really gets to me because it's so recent, so vivid, so Simon. I can really feel him there when I watch it.
