PIMS-NSF Undergraduate Workshop on Supersymmetry
The next PIMS-NSF Undergraduate Workshop on Supersymmetry will be held at the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences at the University of British Columbia, on August 14-20, 2016.
In physics, supersymmetry is a pairing between bosons and fermions appearing in theories of subatomic particles. One may study supersymmetry mathematically by using Adinkras, which are graphs with vertices representing the particles in a supersymmetric theory and edges corresponding to the supersymmetry pairings. The workshop will combine lectures on the mathematics of supersymmetry, emphasizing graph theory and algebraic structures, with problem-solving sessions. Sylvester James Gates, a prominent mathematical physicist at the University of Maryland and recipient of the National Medal of Science, will be the keynote speaker. Kevin Iga (Pepperdine), Charles Doran (University of Alberta), and Ursula Whitcher (University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire/ American Math Society) are co-organizers.
