translations for analytic vectors. Never submitted for
publication, although I think it has some useful stuff. R.
Seiler and I had planned a sequel with our independent results
for decrease inside the velocity cone, but we never got around
to it.

An unpublished 1974 preprint proposing a solution to the
Euclidean fermion doubling problem that overcame a problem with
local interactions in an earlier attempt of mine. It was
rejected by Communications in Mathematical Physics
because the referee felt it unlikely that the theory could be
renormalizable, due to an extra power of momentum in the
Euclidean Dirac two-point function. Although I thought it quite
possible that the same structure that eliminated the doubling
might help the renormalization, I was too down at the time to
pursue it, and never got around to it again.

This pair of papers was submitted to Nuclear Physics in
1989, and basically accepted with the proviso that they be
combined into one. I actually did that, but stuff intervened,
and I never resubmitted. As far as I know, the idea in these
papers is not bad. It's interesting in retrospect that the
computational part was really impractical without a mainframe
system (MTS) at the time it was originally done
(February, 1983 -- July, 1984).

Work I did mostly in Summer, 1972, with the aim of making an
elastically bound model of the classical point electron. I
didn't know at the time that Bryce DeWitt had already developed
the theory of elasticity in general relativity. In spite of his
prior art, my approach seemed pretty clean, so I published it as
a pedagogical paper [Annals of Physics 196, no. 2,
(1989) 345-360]. Unfortunately, I was also unaware of work done
in the interim that should have been cited, which was sharply
pointed out by one of the experts, Gérard A. Maugin, in
his review of the paper for Mathematical Reviews
(MR1027664).

This 1974 article was neither circulated as a preprint nor
submitted for publication. I was never much attracted by dual
string theory, which was prominent then and has been ever since,
in spite of the elegance of the model and the appealing audacity
of its approach to the problem of quantization by increasing the
number of spacetime dimensions. But I was curious about the
possibility of quantizing nondual string models in conventional
spacetime dimensions. The article develops a possible
foundation for that. While it doesn't attempt actual
quantization, I think it does a pedagogically clean job of
laying out a classical, canonical theory of relativistic elastic
strings.

the class of solutions of Euclidean functional field equations
